Flo Dannah, Louise Fox tackle Transylvania for ETU Cross Duathlon European Championships

One week on from the road-based format in Kalkar, Germany, duathlon saw a Dracula-themed turn at the ETU Cross Duathlon European Championships, as the off-road format of the sport was the marquee event of the 2016 ETU calendar this past weekend.

Flo Dannah topped the British elite performances by finishing in 5th, with Louise Fox closely behind in 6th place. Check out the results and report from British Triathlon.

From a total Age-Group medal haul of 13, six of those were Gold. Making their return to this Championship from last year, Nicola Noble (25-29) and Richard Hardy (60-64) were among the winners who were able to improve on their respective Silver and Bronze performances in Castro Urdiales. A Gold medallist from Spain, Kirsty Prior (40-44), was once again on the podium; but this year it was for the Bronze medal.

In the female Age-Group ranks, British athletes provided the two fastest overall times courtesy of Claire Hitchings(45-49) and Sharn Hooper (30-34).

Ross Smith (35-39, Silver) and Jim Mcconnel (40-44, Silver), took the honours as the fastest overall British Age-Group athletes. They crossed the line third and fifth respectively.

The Elite races saw the return of defending Silver medal winner Louise Fox alongside debutant Flo Dannah in the British team. They were very closely matched throughout the race, and with less than perfect preparations for either athlete, they can come away satisfied with fifth and sixth positions. Flo finished less than a 90 seconds clear of Louise over the challenging 8.25km / 28km / 2.75km course.

Spanish athletes won both of the Elite titles. Margarita Fullana Riera retained her championship, while Xavier Jove Riart won both the Elite and Under-23 events, which should make up for not finishing on home soil last season.

Next up on the championship schedule in Europe is the ETU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon European Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 8th May.
